Our Story
Le Secret de Baba is more than a business, it’s a cultural bridge, and a tribute to the people who shaped us.
Kamel, born and raised in Gaza, learned the art of preserving from his parents, who worked side by side during the harvest season. Bayan, half Palestinian and half Syrian, grew up in the diaspora, surrounded by the warmth of her grandmother’s kitchen, where cooking was a love language.
We met in Montreal at an event for Palestine, brought together by a shared passion for justice, culture, and community. What began as a love for food and hosting soon grew into a mission: to reclaim our heritage, preserve the rich flavors and stories of Palestine, and share them with the world.
The name Le Secret de Baba—Baba meaning father in Arabic—is a tribute to Kamel’s father, whose cherished recipes and traditions inspire everything we create. Every jar, every spice blend, and every dip is a reflection of our story, handmade with care, rooted in heritage, and crafted to be shared.

Supporting Gaza with Every Jar

As we grow, we remain committed to transparency in our giving. Making a meaningful impact in Gaza will always be at the heart of what we do.
Frequently asked questions
What does Le Secret de Baba mean?
Baba means father in Arabic. Our recipes are inspired by Kamel’s (co-owner and chef) father, whose kitchen was full of flavors, stories, and traditions. The name reflects how food carries secrets passed down through generations — a mix of love, memory, and heritage that we now share with you in every jar.
What makes your products different from others?
We focus on small-batch, artisanal crafting using natural ingredients, traditional Palestinian methods of preservation, and no shortcuts. We never use preservatives or additives — our food is made the way it has been for generations, naturally and with respect for the ingredients. Most of our products are also naturally vegan and vegetarian friendly — simple, plant-based, and wholesome. Every jar tells a story of heritage, resilience, and connection to the land.
Where do you source your ingredients?
We carefully source our ingredients locally in Montreal and from the historic region of Bilad al-Sham—which includes modern-day Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan—known for its rich culinary traditions. As a Palestinian brand, we strive to source directly from Palestine to support Palestinian farmers, but due to the challenges of the occupation, this isn’t always possible. In those cases, we work with trusted producers in Lebanon and the region.
For us, it’s all one land—Bilad al-Sham—and what matters most is that every ingredient we use is fresh, ethical, and responsibly sourced. If you’re a producer or know ways to help us support Palestinian farmers, we’d love to hear from you!
Do your packaging and practices consider sustainability?
Yes. We use recyclable glass jars with easy-to-remove labels, and we minimize unnecessary packaging wherever possible. Our goal is to respect the earth as much as we respect our food traditions — and we’re always learning new ways to become more sustainable.
Where can I buy your products?
You can order directly from our website or find us at local markets and pop-ups — we love meeting our community in person, so come say hi! And very soon, you’ll also be able to find our jars on store shelves.
Do you take custom or bulk orders (e.g. events, gifts)?
Yes! We love creating special jars and bundles for events, gifts, or larger orders. Reach out to us and we’ll make something unique for you.
Why is it important to preserve Palestinian recipes and culinary heritage?
Because food is more than what we eat — it carries identity, memory, and connection to the land. For Palestinians, food is an act of resiliance and preservation, especially when our dishes and traditions are often erased or claimed by others. Every jar we make is not just about flavor, but about keeping stories, culture, and belonging alive.
